Johns parents Nancy & Colin had 7 children, 5 boys, Hugh, Colin, Duncan, Jim and John and 2 daughters Mary & Grace. John was second eldest and lived with his gran and grandad until leaving school when he became a delivery boy for a butchers in Carnwadric, before moving on to delivering coal. When John became 17 he joined the army going on to serve with the RHF and the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. John divorced isa and adventually married Catherine Anderson in Carnwadric Church on 21st January 1983, they had one child Craig who was born in the Southern General Hospital on 21st December 1981. John left the army not long after meeting Cathy, preferring to spend more time with his family. The family moved to Linwood, Renfrewshire on 23rd May 1983 where John got a job as a porter in Merchiston Hospital where he worked for 10 years before having to retire due to ill health. In his retirement John devoted himself to his family, wife Cathy, sons John and Craig, daughters Karen & Anne-Marie, his grandchildren Nathan, Conner and Andrew, and also the children who classed him as grandad, Christopher, Gordon, Victoria & Lorraine. He was also a stepfather to Gordon, Graeme & Lorraine and will be sadly missed by them all. In his retirement, John took up a love for fishing which, he would travel to Port Glasgow nearly everyday with his closest friend Sanny King and i have been told they had many a funny moment there. John also took a keen interest in computing in his retirement and sometimes tried the patience of a saint with his invariable knack of forgetting everything he had been shown.
